Deutsches Archiv für Erforschung des Mittelalters (DA)
The journal of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica. Editors-in-chief: Enno Bünz, Martina Hartmann, Claudia Märtl, and Stefan Petersen.
The „Deutsches Archiv für Erforschung des Mittelalters“ (DA) publishes critical studies in preparation for and accompaning MGH editions and reports on the current state of international mediaeval research. The DA has been published by the MGH since 1937 (issue 1), initially in volumes 1 - 7 under the name „Deutsches Archiv für Geschichte des Mittelalters“. Since 1998 (issue 54), it was published by the publishing house Böhlau Verlag, since 2022 the DA is published by the publishing house Harrassowitz. Each yearly volume contains two issues.
Due to the discontinuation of the "DigiZeitschriften" portal at the end of 2025, on which the DA and its predecessor journals were available online, the MGH is working intensively on the digital publication of its in-house journal. From mid-February 2026, the MGH is able to make all articles from the DA and NA available in digital form, fully searchable and open access (the digital publication of the Archiv der Gesellschaft für Ältere Deutsche Geschichtkunde will follow shortly; as of February 18, 2026).
