Anyone who had the good fortune to be invited to a working breakfast of the staff of the MGH Berlin section in the apartment of Elisabeth and Michael Menzel knows the great harmony and solidarity that existed in this team beyond all East-West differences. With her calm and circumspect manner, Elisabeth Menzel was the very heart of this special working relationship, firmly backing her husband in the work on his great edition project and warmly supporting his co-workers. As Elisabeth and Michael Menzel foundation a generous endowment in favour of the MGH in 2024, it was an expression of their shared solidarity with the Monumenta Germaniae Historica and of the deep understanding that they shared.
The Monumenta Germaniae Historica will honour and treasure the memory of Elisabeth Menzel.
